15 Food Businesses Hit with Enforcement Orders in May 2025, FSAI Confirms

Tuesday, 10 June 2025 – Dublin
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has confirmed that 15 food businesses across the country were served with Enforcement Orders in May 2025 due to breaches of food safety regulations. These include 10 Closure Orders and 5 Prohibition Orders, issued under the FSAI Act, 1998 and the EU Food Regulations 2020.

The actions were taken following inspections carried out by Environmental Health Officers from the HSE, as well as FSAI officers.

Businesses Affected

The Closure Orders were issued to a mix of takeaways, restaurants, wholesalers, and retailers in counties including Dublin, Kerry, Limerick, Meath, Roscommon, and Carlow.

Examples include:

• Haperty Limited, trading at Mind Mega Mela 2025, Finglas, Dublin 11

• Spice Village & Indian Kebab House, Tarbert, Kerry

• Pizza Corner, Caherconlish, Limerick

• Houda Foods, Ballinlough, Roscommon

• Kerala Royal Caters, Ashbourne, Meath

• Stop n Shop Convenience Store, Carlow

In addition, Prohibition Orders were served to food businesses in Dublin, Meath, Louth, and Roscommon.

Serious Violations Discovered

Inspections revealed a number of serious food safety violations, including:

• Food prepared in unapproved or unsanitary premises

• Evidence of rodent infestations and dead insects

• Improper food storage and lack of temperature control

• Absence of hygiene facilities like hot water and hand soap

• Use of unauthorised food labelling and traceability issues

In one case, a business was operating from a shed that also housed a working car repair workshop. Another used approval markings fraudulently on food made in a domestic kitchen.

FSAI Statement: Compliance Is Not Optional

FSAI Chief Executive Greg Dempsey warned that operating outside legal guidelines poses serious risks to public health:

“The high number of Enforcement Orders in May is unacceptable. Basic food safety procedures, such as clean premises and pest control, are non-negotiable. Businesses that fail to meet their obligations will face the full force of the law.”

Mr. Dempsey also encouraged businesses to use the FSAI Learning Portal, which offers free eLearning, videos, and guides to help food businesses stay compliant.

April 2025 Enforcement Action

The FSAI also noted an additional Prohibition Order issued in April to La Citadel, located in Swords, County Dublin.
